Collaboration has always been at the heart of the UK Universities Procurement Consortia (UKUPC). By working together across our regional consortia, we combine specialist knowledge, share market intelligence and deliver greater value for members throughout the higher education sector. A key part of that collaboration is our National Category Groups (NCGs). Bringing together procurement specialists from across the UK, the National Category Groups provide leadership and expertise across key areas of higher education spend. They work collaboratively to monitor market developments, share best practice, identify opportunities and help shape the future of collaborative procurement.

One of the UKUPC National Category Groups’ most successful initiatives has been our UKUPC Market Insight Document. Over the years, it has developed into a valuable source of information, helping members understand supplier markets, emerging trends and wider factors influencing procurement decisions across higher education.

As the publication has evolved, we’re looking at a new approach which will provide members with more focused, timely and relevant intelligence across our four key national category areas. We have now changed the format from 1 single document into 4 specialist Insight documents covering 4 key areas. Each National Category Group will take ownership of content within their specialist area, ensuring members receive practical insight, market news and emerging opportunities that support informed decision-making.

Our new UKUPC Insights – 4 key categories

  • ICT (Information & Communication Technology)
  • Estates & Facilities
  • STEMED (Laboratories)
  • Corporate (Professional services, office solutions and corporate support services)

Looking Ahead

The evolution of the National Category Groups reflects UKUPC's continued commitment to collaboration, innovation and delivering value for members. By bringing together expertise from across the UK procurement consortia, strengthening communication and providing richer market intelligence, the Groups will continue to support members in navigating an increasingly complex procurement landscape.

This is just the beginning. We look forward to introducing each National Category Group in more detail over the coming months and sharing the next generation of Market Insights as we continue to strengthen collaboration across the UK higher education sector.
