LUPC staff took to the skies on Saturday 27th October to abseil The ArcelorMittal Orbit, a 114.5-metre-high sculpture and observation tower in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London.
The abseil was in aid of St Mungo's, an LUPC Member working to support the homeless, and our nominated Charity of the Year 2018. St. Mungo’s outreach teams go out each night to meet people who are homeless and to help them off the streets. Each night they offer a bed and support to more than 2,700 people. The charity works to prevent homelessness and support people at every step of their recovery from homelessness.
The abseiling team comprising of Don Bowman, Caroline Ford, Mike Kilner and his son, Avery, Cristian Martin and Suzanne Picken, is delighted at having raised more than £2200 for St Mungo’s. LUPC's Acting Director, Don Bowman said: "Once you got over the initial nerves of stepping off the platform and provided you didn’t look directly down too much, it was an exhilarating experience. I am proud of what we have achieved on behalf of a very worthy cause."
